Many artists struggle with pricing their work because they don’t fully understand their buyers. Artistry Collective is a proposed learning solution designed to help artists identify their ideal customers, refine pricing strategies, and ultimately increase sales.

The first step in this learning experience is the Target Buyer Quiz, an interactive tool that helps artists discover whether they attract Art Enthusiasts, Emerging Buyers, or Serious Patrons. By understanding their audience, artists can confidently adjust pricing, choose the right selling platforms, and grow their business sustainably.​​​

Preparation Phase: Understanding Artist Pricing Struggles

  • Conducted an informal learner analysis to explore why independent artists struggle with pricing.

  • Identified three buyer categories (Art Enthusiast, Emerging Buyer, Serious Patron) to shape quiz outcomes.

  • Key Findings:

    • Artists lack confidence in pricing. Many undercharge out of fear of losing buyers.

    • Pricing knowledge varies. Some artists price based on materials and time, while others guess.

    • Selling platforms influence buyer expectations. Artists selling on Etsy or craft fairs attract budget-conscious buyers, while gallery artists cater to high-end collectors.

    • Artists want clear next steps. Learners expressed a need for actionable pricing guidance, not just theory.

Iterative Design Phase: Prototyping & Refinement

  • Developed an initial prototype of the Target Buyer Quiz and pitch deck.

  • Conducted self-testing (as both the designer and an artist) to refine accuracy.

  • Key Refinements After Testing:

    • Clarity: Simplified question wording for ease of understanding.

    • Accuracy: Ensured answer choices clearly led to the correct buyer type.

    • Depth: Added detailed personality profiles for each buyer type, transforming quiz results into an actionable marketing tool.

Iterative Development Phase: Launch & Future Expansion

  • Finalized the Target Buyer Quiz with refined personality profiles, marketing insights, and pricing guidance.

  • Polished the pitch deck to effectively communicate the learning solution.
     

Even though this is a mock project, it was built as if it were ready for real artists to use.

  • Self-testing completed to ensure quiz accuracy.

  • Future plans: Beta-testing with real artists for additional feedback.
